Our Wedding Day

Most girls say they have had their wedding planned since they were five and have dreamt about the day their entire lives. I was not one of those girls. I always wanted to get married and knew pretty early on that Chris and I would likely marry but I didn’t have some built up idea about how the day would go. My earliest plans of my wedding I remember as a statement to my mom that I would get married outdoors. I never envisioned a church and accepted that by having an outdoor wedding, I was playing a game of chance with the weather. I had been to plenty of weddings and was never really into a lot of the traditional things so I knew my wedding would be different. When Chris and I were a little more serious and Pinterest came around, I began to take more interest in weddings. As soon as we got engaged, I went crazy on Pinterest researching real weddings and planning my own. My mom and I checked out two venues, which were both amazing, but I definitely though Jorgensen Farms was a better fit. I’m certainly not country and there was no way there would be cowboy boots at my wedding, but I always loved the outdoors and animals. June 7 just sounded like a good date so we went from there.

I booked the venue more than 13 months before the actual day, had my dress picked out more than 13 months before, and the caterer followed close behind. The farm offered almost nothing, which made me really nervous, so I knew I had to go with an all-inclusive caterer who would provide servers, linens, a bartender, glasses, etc. I really took control of my wedding and knew exactly what I wanted so I didn’t rely on my event planner from Made From Scratch at all. I’m not normally a control freak but when it came to my wedding I was because I didn’t believe other people really got what I wanted. Chris put up with a lot over those 16 months and kept me from cracking, which would have led to us saying, “forget it”, and eloping. If you’ve planned a wedding, I’m sure you’ve felt this way many, many times.

As the pieces began to fall into place and the wedding started to come together, I began to relax. Choosing a photographer was one of the most draining experiences for me because I wanted someone perfect and when I decided to go with Amy, I was SO relieved. The DJ rocked and even though the florist gave me some anxiety with her spotty communication, the flowers were one of the best parts and were exactly what I wanted. I held on so tightly to the idea that I needed to plan this wedding alone that toward the end, I was so grateful for all the help I received from my family. It was kind of crazy when it was finally the big day and I saw all my hard work in the details and everything just seemed to go perfectly. The flowers arrived, the weather was BEAUTIFUL, the flower girl went down the aisle, and the food was almost as good as the tasting. The best part? In the end, Chris and I were finally married. 🙂

Wedding Sneak Peek

I can’t believe it’s already been over two months since Chris and I got married. It was a beautiful, sunny, 81 degree day and was so much more beautiful than I could have hoped. The day went so fast and most of it is a blur but one of my favorite parts was how much Chris and I were together. We did a first look as soon as I got dressed and hung out together in the house before the ceremony began. Not many couples share the moment before their ceremony together and it was very special to spend those few moments together. More to come on an official wedding post.

In the meantime, check out this sneak peek from the amazing Amy Ann Photography:
